Garage gets hospital patient back on the road

A TEAM of mechanics has gone above and beyond the call of duty to get a hospital patient back on the road as quickly as possible.

David Blinston of Dartington, Devon was forced to take his Skoda to Chuley Road Garage in Ashburton after its engine management light came on.

The 67-year-old man was told that it was quite a big job and that an exhaust gas recirculation would be involved, meaning he would have to go a few days without his car.

Unfortunately, this was particularly inconvenient for Blinston, who has to travel to Torbay Hospital every day for radiotherapy treatment.

Ian Tucker and his team wanted to help Blinston, who is a long-time customer of Chuley Road Garage. They therefore endeavoured to get the Skoda back on the road in as little time as possible.

As a result, Blinston was hugely relieved that, after only one day of relying on public transport, his car had been repaired and was ready to go. He offered the team a tip for their hard work, but they refused, saying that his £659 bill was enough.

‘It was incredible that the garage would do this,’ Blinston told the Mid-Devon Advertiser.

‘It was worth everything to me. Their thoughtfulness was just amazing.’

A spokeswoman for Chuley Road Garage added: ‘He’s been a customer for many years. If we can do something to help, we always will.’
