A FORMER serviceman is starting a new career as a technician in the motor sector, thanks to a Ministry of Defence initiative.
Dominic Sherwin, pictured, has joined Jardine Motors Group’s Liverpool Audi dealership via the MoD’s Career Transition Partnership, which helps military personnel offer their unique and transferable skills to UK employers.
With more than 20 years’ military experience as a mechanical fitter for the Royal Engineers, he is now applying the technical skills he developed there to ensure that the Audi cars he is responsible for at the Derby Road dealership receive the highest standard of technical support as they undergo servicing or maintenance.
‘I am delighted to have joined Jardine Motors Group’s Audi dealership in Liverpool,’ he said.
‘I am confident that the engineering knowledge I acquired in the two decades I spent in the military is totally transferable to the private sector, and I am grateful that the partnership has created this very exciting opportunity for me.’
As part of its commitment to ex-servicemen, Jardine will provide the support, training and coaching necessary for Sherwin to make a successful transition into his new role.
Clare Martin, group HR director for Jardine Motors Group, said: ‘We are constantly looking to enhance our employee profile and attract stars like Dominic who have brilliant transferable skills that can aid our ambitious growth plans.
‘With the support that Jardine Motors Group will provide, I am highly confident he will go on to make a great contribution in his role and carve out a long and rewarding career with us. I look forward to following Dominic’s progress in the months and years ahead.’
