Independent garage owner wins British GP VIP trip

AN independent garage owner has won a VIP trip for two to the British Grand Prix in July.

Nigel Chambers, who runs Hillheads Motor Engineers in Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear, secured the prize after winning a contest through NGK’s BoxClever independent garage loyalty scheme.

The VIP trip to Silverstone for the Formula One event is valued at £2,800, and will include full hospitality in the drivers’ lounge. It will be Chambers’ first-ever visit to an F1 race, a motorsport event that he has always wanted to attend.

The 46-year-old said: ‘It has always been on my ‘bucket list’. I even said that to someone a few days ago. Some of my mates have been, but I have only watched it on TV, so I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll now have to decide who I take with me.’

The F1 prize draw was the latest in a series of high-profile NGK promotions that has seen the company give away a £7000 Suzuki Celerio five-door hatchback city car, a 1000-piece Teng Tools kit cabinet valued at £10,000, and 100,000 BoxClever points to three lucky members.

Nigel has been a BoxClever member for many years and fits NGK’s full range of components, which are mainly supplied by local motor factor CTS Car Parts.

He said: ‘We fit NGK spark plugs, glow plugs and Lambda sensors because they are invariably the original components. I have been a BoxClever member for years and always collect the boxes and it is brilliant to have won such a great prize.’

Nigel has worked in the motor trade since he was aged 16, and now runs the four-bay workshop on Hotspur Avenue, assisted by technician Ryan Glynn. The business was founded by his father almost 40 years ago.

BoxClever has already pushed out a new promotion, giving members the chance to enjoy a full day’s driving experience at PalmerSport’s renowned Bedford Autodrome circuit. The winner of the contest will be given the chance to drive six cars including a BMW M4, a Formula 3000 single-seater and a Jaguar sports prototype race car.
