NGK-backed riders slide to success in Poland

THE FIM Speedway World Championships visited Poland for its opening round of 2018, with NGK-backed riders putting in strong performances.

The event took place at the 54,000-seat Boll Warsaw stadium, a landmark that handily represents the nation’s love affair with the sport.

Four-time World Champion Greg Hancock collected eight points at the event. This was matched by fellow NGK-sponsored Russian rider Emil Sayfutdinov, and bettered by Slovenian rider Matej Zagar. As it stands, NGK-backed riders have the last three spots of the championship’s top ten in lockdown.

NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd marketing manager Mark Hallam said: ‘It was an encouraging start by the NGK-sponsored riders with all three winning heats in Poland. I’m sure they will all be working hard to produce even better performances over the course of the season.’

NGK’s significant relationship with motorsport has long included Speedway. As well as sponsoring riders in the FIM’s World Championship, the iconic NGK logo can is also prominently displayed at the Wolverhampton Wolves Speedway team.

The World Championship will now visit the Czech Republic on May 26, and will come to Cardiff on July 21.
